Winter is Here! At least it's Warm

So I made a last minute push to finish my sauna before the snow set in and boy was it worth it! Here is the cedar lined and completed interior. I’m still working on the dressing room but I must admit that it exceeds expectations for how lovely it is to be able to get so incredibly warm to the bone!

I feel great being able to burn the refuse from the shop again. Guess who’s shop I recently raided for burnable scrap.

And in the name of finishing lingering projects, I’ve gotten the last session of the “Foundation in Chairmaking” series that covers the construction processes complete and uploaded to Vimeo on Demand. In celebration, I’m offering the entire series (14.5 hours long so far, finishing content to come soon) for 15 % off until 1/15/22. Just enter the promo code “2022” when purchasing. Here’s a link to the page.

As you may have noticed, the blog is still in my website and not at the old address as I foretold in the last post, moving it proved to be too cumbersome. I’m trying to streamline all my web stuff and it is a huge hassle, but going forward will hopefully pay off!

It's that time again!!

Getting ready for a quick holiday before jumping into a Temple Chair class next week and I wanted to make sure that you knew that enrollment for a bunch of exciting classes starts Wednesday Nov 24th at 8 am. Send an email to peter@petergalbert.com to reserve a spot in the class of your choice. Thanks!

This could be you!!

New Classes are Up and the shop is Humming

I just listed some new classes for winter and spring next year, enrollment starts next Monday, Oct 18th at 8 am, contact me then to register at peter@petergalbert.com. You will find the new classes here.

I just spent a week with Peter Follansbee while he taught the Jennie Alexander ladder back. It was so enjoyable and enlightening. Besides being an engaging teacher, Peter has a deep personal connection to Jennie, as well as other influential makers. Hearing the stories about the encounters and correspondence that led to the development and practice of chair making as we currently know it was fascinating. It really does drive home the fact that one persons pursuits can ripple down through the decades and offer so much to so many.

I’d read about hickory bark seats and sat in many, but watching the process was a highlight for me. That stuff is incredible and I don’t think anything looks quite as appropriate in the chair.

I’m sure he will return to teach this class again, we had too much fun. I’ll be sure to let you know, this isn’t a class to be missed.
